Large Koi Fish Needed

The club needs a few large Koi fish for the Golf Course water garden.  We would like to have ones that are at least 6 inches long.  If you have some fish that would enjoy a new home, contact Larry Arrowood, 886-8191.

Work Day

Jim The Wonder Dog Park

The water garden clean up day at the Jim Park on April 23 was cancelled due to cold weather.  Several club members got together later and cleaned the pond.

Some of our club members also volunteered to help with the landscaping clean-up at the Jim Park.  Club members volunteering included Arline Borchers, Katye Elsea, Leta Robb, Jean Wilson and her daughter, LaDonna Arrowood, and Connie Rieth.

 Golf Course Project

The project at the Marshall Golf Course is about complete.  Just a few finishing touches remain to be done.  The water garden has a golfing theme with a golf tee, little boy golfer putting to a golf flag pole fountain.  A sand trap is next to the “golf green” water garden.

The finishing landscaping this spring has been done by Steve Drake, Dewey and Sandy Hendrix, Carl Hufford, Katye Elsea, and Larry and LaDonna Arrowood.  The golf course is on Watermill Road, you may want to stop there on your way to the May meeting.

Stepping Stones Class

a big success

The stepping stones class held in April had good attendance.  Everyone had fun and made some neat looking stepping stones.  Sandy Hendrix did an outstanding job of teaching how to paint the stepping stones.  We hope to have pictures of the finished products on our website soon.

The club thanks Julie Wolf of Granddaddy’s Garden for the donation of $50 in plants for the Jim the Wonder Dog Park.  The plants are around the six information signs and other places in the garden.  Thanks Julie!

Dear Polly,

I have been busy with my pond.  This is the second year for us and we would like to have a larger pond.  Maybe a 500 gallon.  We have 7 Koi and they are all pretty good size.  Our largest Koi is approx. 8 – 9 inches long.  Our fish are all hand fed.   Then we have 4 Koi that are approx. the same size, which are approx.  5 inches long.  Our two smallest Koi are approx. 2 1/2 - 3 inches long.  Our gold fish (4) are so pretty also, we have 2 of the gold fish that have the real cushion on the top of their heads, two other are white with orange spots on them.  I am thinking we could have the small pond for the gold fish and have the large one for the Koi.

Do you ever have any ponds for sale?  And if so could we come down and look at them.  I would like to join your club after we get in the larger pond.  I enjoy your web site so much.  Thanks for reading my email and I hope you answer me even though I don't belong to your web site yet.

Thanks Jo

Dear Jo,

It sounds like you really care about your pond and the Koi and goldfish.  With the number and size of the fish you described, I would recommend a pond larger than the 500 gallons.  Koi need lots of space especially when they get larger than the ones you have now.  You didn't say if you had a waterfall or any kind of running water.  The running water would help to add oxygen to the water which would allow for more fish.  I think you will want a water garden of at least a 1000 gallons, larger would be better.  You asked if we had any ponds for sale.  We do not sell any kind of water garden equipment.   I assume you are talking about pre-formed ponds.  For Koi you really need a pond larger than most pre-formed ponds.  I would suggest an in-ground pond using a rubber liner.

I am glad you enjoy the club website.  We try to keep it up to date with the latest activities of the club.

I hope you will join our club and are able to attend our meetings and activities.
