Arrow, in Marshall. (Take Highway 65 to Highway 20, turn west on Highway 20 to 2655 on the north side of the highway.) The dinner will be a buffet with a choice of meats. The cost of the meal including tax and gratuity will be $10. We will hold
our centerpiece contest again this year.
It can be a centerpiece that relates to gardening. So get to work on your creative
ideas. We need to know the number
of members who plan to attend. Make your reservation by December 7 by
calling Sandy Hendrix 886-4130 or LaDonna Arrowood 886-8191. October
Meeting Minutes Larry
brought the October 16th 2003 meeting to order. He asked for everyone to share
anything new happening in his or her ponds. The
2003 Community service project at the Center for Human Services has been
postponed. The Center is making
changes to their garden area and needed us to wait to build the pond. As a substitute project a small pond
will be built at the Blosser Home for Women. This project will begin next spring. The
next board meeting will be November 6th, 2003 at 7PM. The next regular club meeting will be
held on November 20th.
This will be the annual photo contest. Christmas dinner and meeting are
planned for December 11th.
The location is not yet finalized. The
2003 Watergarden Tour made appx. $1800 to $1900 profit. The
homes for the 2004 tour were discussed but have not been finalized. The
Jim the Wonder Dog garden needs some major work done to it next spring. The rocks have been thrown in the pond
and the bridge needs repair. More
than one workday will be required to put it back in order. The
program was on Daylilies and presented by Bob McConnell of McConnell's
Plantland near Columbia. Martha
Kisner won a flower in a planter for a door prize. Kayte Elsea won a garden ornament for
a door prize. Sandy Hendrix and LaDonna Arrowood provided refreshments. Special
Donation to the Club Bob McConnell of McConnell’s Plantland donated $60 in plants for next year’s community service project. Bob was our program for the October meeting and presented an excellent program on Daylilies. Thanks Bob for your support of our club. Coming
Events The Board of Directors of the club decided at the last meeting of the board to not hold club meetings during the months of January and February 2004. Traditionally, these months have low attendance and little activity occurs in the water gardens during those months. We will not have our newsletter in those months either. In March, April and May we will have a series of programs by gardening experts Polly Ponder Dear Polly, I
have a lot of “muck” in the bottom of my pond. Is that a problem and if it is what
should I do about it? Muckey Dear Muckey, That muck in the bottom of your pond is like a big compost pile. It is giving off all kinds of gases and wastes that are removing the oxygen from your water. I am surprised that your fish make it through the winter. Your pond is long overdue for draining and cleaning. This should be done at least every other year and every year if you can not keep the leaves out of the pond. Your fish will appreciate having a clean home to live in.
