had a good turn out for our May plant exchange and picnic at the park in J J J J J J J J J J J J J Plant Tips by LaDonna Arrowood We have looked
for nice large pots for potting bowl lotus. It is difficult to find ones without a
hole in the bottom. Katye and
Alden Elsea from Woodland Wonders use automobile body putty to fill the hole
and then seal the pot with Glocel water shield. It is a washable elastometric sealer
found at most lumber companies. Jan Vinyard of Make sure the
water temperature is a least 70 degrees day and night before you put tropical
lilies in your pond. Fertilize
all your lilies at least once a month with a fertilizer for water lilies. Arline Borchers
has found if you pick off the large lily leaves you will get bigger and more
blooms. But be careful not to
remove more than 75% of the water surface since the lily leaves help to shade
the pond to reduce algae. If you get
string algae on your waterfall, turn it off for a few days. The sun will kill the algae. If you sprinkle pickling salt (without
Iodine) on the waterfall when it is off, it will help kill the algae. When adding any
new plants to the water garden, remove them for the pot and rinse the roots
and leaves clean. Then repot them
in a clean pot before adding it to the water garden. This will keep bacteria and parasites
from being spread from pond to pond. . . . . . . . . . . Send your water garden
